I'm having extreme difficulty trying to figure out how to cast adventure spells. Artifacts and terrain can alter this, but that won’t affect 98% of your battles. To cast a spell at Expert level you need the Expert level of the spell’s corresponding school. You’ll quickly see some patterns, like Rampart and Castle tending to have more Water while Inferno prefers Fire, but it’s not guaranteed to end up that way. Some of the spell choices are obvious, but some aren’t (for example, Castle is more likely to get Ice Bolt than Tower, but Tower almost always gets Lightning Bolt). Castle is likely to get Bless but will not get Animate Dead, for example, Necropolis can’t get Bless but will often get Animate Dead. The spells are random, but certain spells are more likely in certain factions. Some might heroes do as well, but most don’t. Once you buy a spell book, anytime you visit a city (and go into the city view), all spells the hero can cast are automatically added to the spell book. Right now the developers are working on a new town - Factory (cowboy/wild west steampunk theme) and who knows what other changes along with that. Outside of battle in the menu there is again a book button from which you can cast some of the adventure map spells like: Summon Boat, ScuttleBoat, Disguise, Visions, View Earth, View Air.Īfter you remember how the game works, I strongly suggest you the Horn of the Abyss Mod, which adds the new Cove (pirate) town, many balancing and much more. (some creatures have certain immunities to certain spells, but that's not important, you will learn that along the way) In a battle in the menu there is a book button from which you cast spells. I hope that answers your questions and that I used the right terminology! I can't quite fact check that right now.Īs you upgrade your town, you build each new level of the Mage Guild building.Įach new level unlocks random spells for that level, some are specific for each town.Ī magic hero just needs to visit the town (being in the bottom slot) and open the Mage Guild building to learn all the available spells.Ī might hero upon doing the same thing will be asked if they want to buy a Spell Book for 500 gold in order to be able to learn spells.Ī hero without the Wisdom secondary skill can't learn spells above level 3 even if such are already available in the Mage Guild. You can regain mana by ending a hero's turn in a castle with a mage guild. Spell power (or duration) is based on your hero's power level, and mana is based on your knowledge level. Note that magic arrow scales with whatever your highest school of magic is. All spells can be cast at basic level, but knowing expert water magic would allow your hero to cast expert level water spells. When you cast a spell, you cast it at a certain proficiency based on the school of magic that your hero knows. Upgrading a mage guild unlocks random spells of that level, so building a mage guild will give you random level 1 spells, and upgrading it will give you random level 2 spells. No wisdom means they can learn level 1 and 2 spells, basic they can learn 3, advanced 4, and expert 5. From that point onward, they learn any spell they come across based on their wisdom level. So for a hero to learn spells, they need a spellbook, which they can buy from a guild.

Wider grooves of AT2 allow smooth navigation of vehicle through the mud as it can easily evacuate the mud by throwing it backward, hence moving the tire forward. Narrow grooves and fewer sipes are average in wet traction, as they perform adequately to avoid hydroplaning but are not preferred to tackle severe wet conditions. This improves the grip, thus resulting in overall better on-road dry traction. The wider grooves combined with numerous sipes allow water to easily pass through them, making it a better option for driving in wet conditions.ĪT is somewhat focused on reliable on-road performance by adding a continuous rib which provides that extra boost to on-road traction by increasing the contact patch of the tire. Grabber AT2Ĭontradictory to dry traction, its performance in wet conditions is much better. This negatively affects the on-road traction of this tire making it second to that of AT tire. On-Road Traction ComparisonĪT2 tread has a lower contact area with the road causing less grip to be acquired, increasing its braking distance. Its noise cancellation ability is higher due to the lower void ratio but the same decreases its ability to navigate smoothly on uneven terrain. Its enhanced built material still lacks the toughness and resistance like that of AT2. It uses an innovative compound named “Long Link Carbon” which is stronger and does provide extra resistance against treadwear abrasion, improving the durability and mileage of the tire. On the ice, the tire performs exceptionally well due to its higher contact patch with the road and deeper sipes allowing it to firmly grasp the icy roads. The grooves are narrow and don’t offer much depth which hinders its mud, soft snow, and gravel traction capabilities. It has fewer sipes compared to other tires, decreasing its wet traction. This special blend of on and off-road traction tread blocks pattern is known as “UNI-T” technology utilized by Firestone. The central rib is for providing the extra grip during on-roading while the tread blocks wrapped around the rib are for providing the necessary off-road traction. It features a non-aggressive symmetrical tread design with continuous central rib surrounded by separated tread blocks. It’s louder on road compared to its counterpart but exceeds in off-road driving comfort due to the shock dampening ability provided by its wider grooves.įirestone Destination AT tread pattern is engineered to provide good on-road traction along with mild off-road performance. It has higher built strength and treadwear resistance that improves its durability and mileage. The highly optimized shoulder design also provides good handling during off-roading. It also introduces bold stone ejectors for better rock traction. The tire lacks proper traction on ice as there is no decent contact area and due to its shallow sipes. The wide shoulder design does come in handy during mud traction as it allows mud to easily pass through it. Wide grooves do allow the efficient removal of mud, soft snow, and debris, bolstering its off-road traction. Its tread blocks feature traction edges and multiple sipes for better grip on wet roads. General Grabber AT2 has an aggressive symmetrical computer-optimized design with five rows of sparsely placed tread blocks providing wide and deep grooves between them which ultimately reduces its on-road performance. Welcome to the new and improved Kobo Reddit Rules Of the three, the Kobo Clara 2E seems to be the best options for those who want to push their reading to the audiobook genre too.Anything and everything about the Kobo eReader. At the moment, the Kobo eReaders offer viable options for those who are looking beyond the Kindle. This might work as a strategy though Kobo still needs to compete with Kindle, which Indians consider synonymous with eReaders, with better pricing and selection. Kobo will need to think through this aspect if they hope to get more popular.įrom Kobo’s re-entry into India, I get the sense that eReaders are now catering more to book lovers who are okay with paying a premium and not really gunning for the mass market. Even some regular books seem to have pricing that has been converted from its Dollar pricing. The cheapest audiobook I could find was about Rs 900, and that too some random title. I found some of the pricing a bit odd, especially with the audiobooks. It would be better if the homepage showed new and interesting Indian titles, and not books by Kalam and Ruskin Bond that get sold more though it is not what book lovers are looking for. There is access to millions of titles, though I did not find a very strong India connection in the curations. The Kobo eReaders are easy to set up, but you will need an account to buy new titles. At Rs 10,999, the Nia might be what most users prefer as it ticks most of their requirements. It offers a good grip and is light enough to be held for hours as you binge on a page-turner. They are just looking to replace books and this plays that part very well. This does not offer a lot of the features of the other devices, though works pretty well as an eReader, which I think is the only expectation a lot of users have. The Nia is the basic eReader from Kobo with a 6-inch screen and backlight. Kobo Nia (Image credit: Nandagopal Rajan/The Indian Express) Kobo Nia I would use this more as an emergency feature. You can also browse the web directly from the device, though it is tough given the richness we are used to on Internet screens. There are some Beta features out of which I liked the ability to scribble on the touch screen. My Books tab shows the books you have already purchased and downloaded. The Home button gives you a curation of new books and audiobooks, while the discover tab lets you browse through new titles, curated by genres and based on what you have been reading. You can even search via Google or Wikipedia or inside the book. You can press on a word and get the meaning or even add a note there. And I loved how this has an easy switch to dark mode in the settings, certainly my preference now across screens. The screen is very sharp and it is easy to read under all kinds of lighting. The overall experience of using the Libra 2 was good. Dark mode on the Kobo Libra 2 (Image credit: Nandagopal Rajan/ The Indian Express) The settings also give you access to the WiFi settings as well as Bluetooth, which you can use to connect to an earphone in case you are listening to an audiobook. There is an interesting analytics tab that tells you how long the book will take to finish and other data points which can motivate, or deter, you. You can adjust brightness here and even make the eReader have a natural hue, which again is adjustable. The top of the screen has a panel that gives access to controls and settings. The 7-inch screen has touch, so you can navigate easily on the screen too. Business Starter, at $6 per user per month, comes with the full suite of applications and 30GB of storage per user. Google Workspace comes in four commercial versions: Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, and Enterprise. Google Workspace pricing options for business Individuals can use several of the online apps from both suites - including Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides as well as Microsoft Word Online, Excel Online, and PowerPoint Online - for free, but businesses should look to the paid Workspace and Microsoft 365 subscriptions for necessary security and management features.Ĭheck out the following tables, first for Google Workspace, and then for Microsoft 365, to compare plans and pricing. “Follow the money” is the hallowed refrain of investigators everywhere, and when you’re starting to decide which office suite is better for you, it’s a good place to start as well. Pricing: Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 subscriptions compared Our focus here is on how the suites work for businesses, rather than individual use. We offer a detailed look at every aspect of the office suites, from an application-by-application comparison to how well each suite handles collaboration, how well their apps integrate, pricing, support, and more. So it can be exceedingly difficult to decide which suite is better for your business. And both suites offer scads of additional tools as well. But those individual applications are quite different from one suite to the other, as are the management tools for taking care of them in a business environment. Each has cloud storage associated with it. Each has word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, calendar, and contacts programs, along with videoconferencing, messaging, and note-taking software. The suites also offer the same basic core applications. Microsoft provides Office client apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, and its web-based apps work across browsers. Because it’s web-based, Google Workspace works in most browsers on any operating system, and Google also offers mobile apps for Android and iOS. And while Microsoft 365 is based on installed desktop software, it also provides (less powerful) web-based versions of its applications.īoth suites work well with a range of devices. Although Google Workspace is web-based, it has the capability to work offline as well. Both are subscription-based, charging businesses per-person fees every month, in varying tiers, depending on the capabilities their customers are looking for. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 have much in common. Nowadays, choosing an office suite isn’t as simple as it once was. Microsoft 365 is what we’ve focused on in this story. Microsoft, meanwhile, has shifted its emphasis away from its traditional licensed Office software to Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), a subscription-based version that’s treated more like a service, with frequent updates and new features. Although Google’s productivity suite didn’t immediately take the business world by storm, over time it has gained both in features and in popularity, boasting 6 million paying customers, according to Google’s most recent public stats in March 2020. Then in 2006 Google came along with Google Docs & Spreadsheets, a collaborative online word processing and spreadsheet duo that was combined with other business services to form the Google Apps suite, later rebranded as G Suite, and now as Google Workspace. By the late ‘90s and early 2000s, Microsoft’s office suite had brushed aside rivals such as WordPerfect Office and Lotus SmartSuite, and there was no competition on the horizon. Once upon a time, Microsoft Office ruled the business world. Barack Obama’s image is younger and hipper, but his use of social media generally fit into an old paradigm. Which brings us to President-elect Donald Trump. Nixon) - and later, Ronald Reagan - deftly harnessed its ability to glamorize politics with images. In the case of radio, FDR was the first president to fully grasp its potential to humanize politics in the case of television, JFK (vs. This happens until someone with creativity and vision (and necessity!) discovers that each technology is inherently different. Yet, the fact that films with sound were originally referred to as “talkies” betrays the fact that we almost always see technological advancements through the prism of an old template. Whether Harding or Truman, the first president to use a given medium in office is never the one to master it, primarily because the temptation is always to see a new technology through the lens of an old paradigm.Īs the late author Neil Postman observed, it is incorrect to think of television as an extension of an old medium, just as it would be foolish to think of the automobile as a horseless carriage. Just as radio was an obvious benefit to a president who had a physical disability, TV was a blessing for a president who oozed charisma. Kennedy’s campaign in 1960 that a politician capitalized on the fact that TV was more than just radio with pictures. While FDR had appeared on TV, and Harry Truman was the first president to deliver a televised speech, it wasn’t until John F. Harding was the first president to be heard on the radio, but Franklin Roosevelt was the first to fully comprehend radio’s potential for communicating intimacy with the American public. Politicians are usually lagging indicators. If you think it’s odd that Trump, a 70-year-old who ran a decade after the medium was invented, is the one to have grasped the potential of social media, you’re not alone. In recent days, Trump has used the platform to attack the cast of “Hamilton” (a move some see as a devious diversion from other news, including legal settlements over Trump University) and to express some kind words about Sen. Kennedy, won by mastering a revolutionary new technology? Donald Trump has surprised us all so many times, but could it be that he will go down in history as a politician who, in the vein of Franklin D. For example, fire armor is best against fire monsters. Killing Behemoths and gearing up is most of the fun of Dauntless – and the armors and weapons look awesome.Īs equipment is crafted from monster parts, it is imbued with the attributes of that monster type. Once constructed, they can be upgraded extensively, though the recipe requirements to do so become more demanding as you upgrade into higher levels. Weapons and armor are constructed from materials picked up as loot after hunts. I’ve found that with some practice, I can wield them to moderate success. But after a bit of experimentation, I have switched over to the Ostean Repeaters – Dauntless’ somewhat unpopular guns. I started Dauntless as a devoted Chain Blade user, enjoying the mix of lightning fast close-range severing DPS damage and slower distance attacks. Of course, once you are accustomed to a Behemoth, you are much less likely to get hit, let alone get knocked out. Luckily, the community is very cooperative at this point, and it is in everyone’s best interest to keep the entire team on their feet. Each player has a number of heals that can be used during the battle, but once they are gone, you are at the mercy of your teammates to revive you. Your reliance on your teammates will depend entirely on your experience level with a particular Behemoth. The best you can hope for is a well-rounded team, with a variety of weapons. A team of four taking on an Embermane with swords will handle the battle far differently from a team of hammer users. There are six basic weapon types in Dauntless, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Teamwork is a shifting dynamic, depending on the weapons brought by each player. The game is laid out well enough that you easily fall into your role regardless of whether you are talking or not. Chat can easily be toggled off if you don’t feel like hanging out with strangers. Team chat is robust and works well, but is mostly unnecessary. Dauntless does the rest, and in good time. Getting access to a team is as simple as picking the type of hunt you want. The much-touted cross-platform matchmaking is almost invisible in-game, the only visual indication that you might be playing with folks on other platforms being a small symbol near players names during hunts. Finding a desired hunt usually takes less than two minutes, and now that the launch week server problems have settled, you will usually find yourself on an appropriate team of four in less than sixty seconds. Luckily, Phoenix Labs has put considerable effort into their matchmaking system. Dauntless is absolutely meant to be a multiplayer game, to the point where playing by yourself is beyond non-optimal it becomes completely non-viable. In the opening hours of the game, you will be able to handle hunts singlehandedly, but before long Dauntless will start handing you your rear on a platter unless you come to terms with the multiplayer aspects of the game. Better gear leads to fighting more difficult Behemoths. Killing Behemoths grants the player materials, which can then be used to craft better gear. Combat is fast, fun, and in the later game, challenging. In order to really progress and succeed, you will need to face these dire beasts over and over again, and learning their patterns and attacks is part of the fun. The Shattered Isles are home to any number of element-based Behemoths, and the quest lines you receive in Ramsgate will send you out to hunt them repeatedly.ĭauntless is not the sort of game that has you hunting a Behemoth one time. The real action takes place on The Shattered Isles, a series of floating islands. |
